Exhibition Overview

(Un)bound to Boundless exhibition at Gallery One celebrates not only what it has meant for communities of color to survive bondage and persist in America, but also to be part of a thriving ecosystem of Black artists in New Mexico today. The enduring message is that nothing – not even slavery – will stop Black artists and artisans from finding a way to free their minds and souls. The exhibition includes diverse media of poetry, textiles, photography, ceramics, sculpture, and print, weaving a cultural tapestry of beauty, strength, endurance, and love.

“Creatives and curators are giving voice to what it means to be multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary in the Land of Enchantment,” said Chandler. “We honor those milestones by building on the artists and writers who came before us and charting a path for those to come.”
