The Silent Contentment Of The Catalpa

What does contentment mean to you? And how do you embody it? The contentment of the embodied Catalpa, provides a silent lesson of what it means to be content within yourself as you navigate and experiences the seasonal changes and external stresses.

Even though this beautiful work was created 2 years ago, I love how timely art is, I find myself currently reflecting on what does it mean for me to be content, especially in this new, challenging and unfamiliar reality that I’ve dreamed of. To truly embody contentment as I weather the various internal and external storms and climate that manifest.

When experiencing The contentment of the embodied Catalpa, what comes to mind? Are you content? Is contentment something you’re interested in or striving for? Let me know in the comments below.

Inspiration & Intention Behind The Series

The contentment of the embodied Catalpa, 2023, comes from the ongoing series of botanical drawings I started when I was gifted 12 sheets of beautiful, old, vintage-esque, textured paper. With there only being 12 sheets, and once it’s gone it’s gone. There wasn’t any indication stating who the paper company was or anything. So I decided I would create delicate and beautiful works on this paper. And since I was on a botanical drawing/illustration grind and not sorry about it, botanical drawing it would be!

For the past 3 years I have dived deep into the beautiful and meditative world of botanical drawings and illustrations. What I love about my drawings is that I sit with the plant I’ve come across and take into consideration its environment, condition, season, weather, and time of day provides me with insight into how the plant must be feeling. What inspired me to go into this direction was to encourage myself and others to take a closer look at the plants in our everyday lives, observe, appreciate and learn from them. Since I love using a geometric and a pop of color, we were in business. My hope with this series is to encourage you to cultivate a closer relationship and awareness with the plants in your everyday life.
