Sustainability In Practice
How sustainability shows up in the materials used
- Salvaged Paper from flood
- Donated Paper from Vital Spaces Community Closet
- Current pens and pencils on hand
When it comes to sustainability in my art practice, I’m particular about not purchasing new materials unless necessary. I prefer to use what I currently have on hand or use donated (materials that are in circulation and need a new home). This includes paper, pens, pencils, pastels, fabric, and more! It’s fun and challenging to figure out how I would use these materials instead of running out to grab the exact thing I need. I feel that I am strengthening my critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
What I love about works on paper is how accessible the materials and sizing of paper are to collectors and me. I create works that are smaller in size. But if you’re interested in larger works, let me know.
How The Sustainability Continues
This falls in alignment with my values of creating one-of-a-kind works. Once purchased, to reduce carbon emissions, shipping is done on a weekly basis through EasyPost, which offers carbon neutral shipping and is packed with packaging from EcoEnclose.
