Release. It is time for release. A Black Woman’s Tears series encourages you to dive deep into release. Many of us keep a lot of our experiences and feelings of pain, sadness, joy, laughter, happiness, excitement, disappointment, frustration, and like pent-up inside. This series questions what would happen if you released and expressed your excitement about that milestone? Or if you expressed the relief you feel now that you’ve put some distance between you and that friend?
As you can probably tell, I love a good title that encompasses the moment/experience that is being highlighted. Focusing on interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships and dynamics that encourages release, introspection, reflection, and inspiration. I love using the circles in repetition at different sizes to create shading, depth, and overall build out the figure. It gives the work a whimsical, mesmerizing, and zen-like quality that I’ve grown to embrace and appreciate. Speaking of figures, it was important to me to create respectful, tasteful depictions of Black Women in my work. It’s totally possible to focus on the female form without oversexualizing it. So that’s the challenge I’ve given myself.
But I always love it when you all share what you love about each piece. It helps me to continue to grow as an artist.
I hope this gives you an inside look at what goes into this series. To see the other works in the series, click here.
