Exhibition Overview

The Art of ReUse, an exhibition that invites and inspires audiences to incorporate sustainability into their lives, from works of art and wearable art, a pop-up boutique with a focus on local design talent, and closes with a fashion show.

When it comes to “sustainable”, “eco-friendly,” or “green” works of art, fashion, and design, there is an overemphasis on the sustainability aspect over design and function, which makes the genre unapproachable or unrealistic for many people. From the art seen on the walls, to the designs coming down the runway, to listening in on conversations with designers about how they approach sustainability, to hands-on workshops, The Art of ReUse breaks through the wall of inaccessibility by creating a space where audiences can engage with and participate in sustainability through art, fashion, and design. The Art of ReUse will inspire and demonstrate how we can incorporate sustainability into our everyday lives, from the art we appreciate to how we decorate our homes and express ourselves.

  • Community Engagement
The core focus of The Art of ReUse is to invite and inspire audiences to incorporate sustainability into their lives. Community engagement in the form of workshops and a panel discussion will provide audiences with a firsthand experience to see how they can implement sustainability into their everyday lives.
  • Workshops
    Date: Saturday, January 31, 2026
    • Mending & Repair 101: Patching & Darning: Community engagement is central to The Art of ReUse, and we’re excited to give audiences the opportunity to learn and experience sustainable practices firsthand that they can implement in their everyday lives. Jakia Fuller leads workshop attendees through the mending basics of patching and darning. Attendees learn how to make simple patches, use them to repair clothing or serve as decoration, and learn simple stitches to mend holes or add a special element to their favorite piece.
    • The Garment Restoration Project: This program gives participants an in-depth perspective into YAUDI’s Garment Restoration Program, which utilizes second-hand textiles as substrates for streetwear. The workshop features an optional $40 starter kit that includes a t-shirt, 3 original screen-printed patches, sewing supplies, and a hand-sewing how-to demo for first-time seamstresses. Participants are encouraged to bring their own garment for a $25 discount on your starter-kit.
  • Panel Discussion | C2: Creatives In Conversation: Sustainable Fashion In Practice, Not Theory
    Date: Saturday, January 31, 2026
Panelists: Kristi Frank Montaño, Kailani Mayer, Alex Vigil, and Madison Van Der Lingen

Guest-Curator, Jakia Fuller, brings C2: Creatives In Conversation to The Art of ReUse. In this conversation, Sustainable Fashion In Practice, Not Theory, Jakia speaks with designers in different areas of the fashion industry about sustainability in practice. This includes speaking to their personal definition and approach to sustainability, how it impacts their design practice and business, terms consumers should be aware of, such as greenwashing, and ways we as a community can incorporate sustainability into our everyday lives.

To listen to the panel discussion.
  • Mending & Repair Resource Guide: This guide provides our New Mexico community with a list of businesses, designers, makers, and artisans who repair and mend clothing, accessories, and footwear. **Coming Soon**
