About Me

“An artist’s duty, as well as I’m concerned is to reflect the times…I choose to reflect the times and situations in which I find myself, that to me is my duty…” – Nina Simone

I Create For Myself and That’s Not Selfish

I’m a self-observer, a witness to myself. Creating with the overall intention to continue to learn and understand me better through introspection and self-reflection, all to create, cultivate, and strengthen intimacy with me.  To push past my preconceived notions, to expand, and broaden the depths of my thoughts.

I create for myself, to get out, what needs to get out.

To communicate what needs to be expressed.

To consider what needs to be reflected.

It starts with self-observations. Areas that I noticed where I’m lacking, characteristics or traits that I resonate with, range of emotions, topics of personal interest, or just being plain curious or nosy. How I express varies from clothing design (upcycling), visual art (digital, traditional, mixed-media), multi-media projects, events, conversations, and installations.

Observation > Question > Goal / Intention > Form of Expression

On Creating for The People, The Masses

The masses, people, are not at the center of my work, I am. I cannot sit here and pretend that I’m out here doing it for the masses. If someone gets something from my work, whether that be neutral, positive or negative, that’s wonderful, but people are not at the center of my work. When I pretended or thought I was supposed to create for others, things got suffocating, stressful, anxious, and never good enough. But by having myself be at the center, I hope that those who view or participate will be able to relate to what’s communicated, which provides a space or moment for self-reflection.

On Inspiration

Besides myself. Nina Simone’s quote hits home and inspires me,  ” An artist’s duty,  as well as, I’m concerned is to reflect the times… I choose to reflect the times and situations in which I find myself,  that to me is my duty.”
